21 Bold Landscaping Ideas For 2023
Do you want to your garden to stand out from the crowd? Here are 21 bold landscaping ideas that really make a statement.
As a garden designer and a landscaper, I love to create gardens that are truly unique. I’m not afraid to think outside of the box. For me, bold landscaping ideas are fun to design and interesting to create. I will admit, there’s sometimes a bit of head-scratching on site when we’re trying to fit square slabs onto a round patio – but the results are always worth the effort. (At least I think they are).
Check out these 21 images showing bold landscaping ideas from previous projects.
See something you like? I’d love it if you could leave me a comment below.
- Make steps big and bold so that they can double up as resting places
- A garden feature that reflects the history of the property. This millstone has been converted into a water feature
- Go for a bold and unusual planting palette and you’ll never fail to turn heads
- One of my favourite bold landscaping ideas – a play area to entertain the adults
- Lucky enough to have great views from your garden? Be bold and make the most of them.
- Frame a gateway to create intrigue – I bet your wondering what’s through there….
- Embrace your spirituality with a timber circle that hearks back to prehistoric times
- Steps needn’t be straight! A swoosh brings an element of surprise to this front garden in Wembdon
- Mix and match fencing materials to make a bold statement
- Play with laying patterns. These pavers are laid diagonally to the property to make the garden feel a little larger.
- Use plants for screening. These grasses cost less than a timber trellis and make a lovely rustling sound when the breeze blows
- A sunken patio makes you feel safe and shelters you from harsh winds. It’s particularly cosy on a hillside garden like this one
- Gentle curves soften the harsh lines of a newbuild garden
- This was fun to build but well worth the effort. A circular feature set into a winding path
- A cloister gives you somewhere to walk when the weather is wild. This one frames the view of a young tree.
- Hugging stone steps with lush planting makes them feel more inviting.
- A floating deck brings visitors closer to this small pond where a fountain bubbles gently and koi carp glide beneath the surface. Very bold and very zen.
- Use industrial materials to build garden features. Gabions are normally used as retaining walls beside motorways. But they also make fabulous seating.
- Play with lighting to create a restful ambience
- Forget the trend for porcelain paving and rendered walls. Locally sourced materials like this ham stone have a lot more charm.
- Child-friendly water feature
